PRESIDENT¡¯S MESSAGE

Dear Deans, Members and Schools,

Greetings and Welcome to AAPBS 2019!

I was appointed as President at the Annual Meeting held by UNSW Business School in November 2018.

First of all, I would like to convey my special thanks to Dean Tam Kar Yan, HKUST for his leadership. He made a few important decisions and took necessary leadership for realizing them.

A big thanks to Prof. Pasu, Chulalongkorn Business School. He supported the team as an executive council member. His hands-on knowledge helped the team immensely.

The Constitution was revised at the same time, and President¡¯s term has become 2 years, which expect the president to lead the association from a longer-term presidents could not handle.

My term started when AAPBS commemorates its 15th anniversary. I would like to remind myself of the primary purpose of the Association, which is to provide leadership and representation to advance the quality of business and management education in the Asia-Pacific region. I would like to contribute to the realization of this.

Before doing so, I will confirm where we are now. That is why the Academic Conference to be held by APU in May 2019 has a conference theme ¡°Qualities of Management and Business Education in the Asia Pacific region.¡± Each country must have its own features of its business and management.

They should be shared among member schools to move forward.

AAPBS is a non-profit organization. Unlike AACSB and EFMD, we are not an accreditation institution. Therefore, it is often said that member schools can hardly find the significance of being a member.

Toward this end, AAPBS provides its members with opportunities to exchange ideas, knowledge and know-hows through annual meetings and conferences. The members can utilize the cases that other members made. Dean¡¯s programs designed for newly appointed deans and directors are also available. Several schools have started a campus visit program. All of those occasions and programs have enjoyed a good reputation and are open to any member schools.

However, I wonder whether members value all of the above as expected. I also wonder what the members actually want from AAPBS. This connects with what values AAPBS can provide.

In my 2 year term, I would like to manage the association, with an emphasis on what AAPBS can provide the member schools with.

Best Regards,

Prof. YOKOYAMA, Kenji, PhD.

Executive Dean & Vice-President
